Consists of material (correspondence, diaries professional files, etc.) concerning Harold B. Hoskins' life beginning with his school years, his appointment by Franklin D. Roosevelt to discuss the problems of the Arabs and the Jews with King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia, and his years as Director of the Foreign Service Institute, primarily in Beirut dealing with Middle East affairs. Also included is correspondence, diaries and other materials of Hoskins' missionary parents and their lives in Syria (1888-1929).

Harold B. Hoskins served in WWI and made his career as a businessman before entering WWII, at which point he was commissioned by Franklin Roosevelt to discuss problems involving Palestine with King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia. He became special assistant to the ambassador at Tehran in 1944, counselor for economic affairs attached to the American Legation in Cairo and to the American diplomatic missions in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia.
